Hitting The 'reset' Button on 2020.

I think it is safe to say that many are thrilled that 2020 is over. While I am looking forward to a new year, I did have some good things happen this past year. In fact, I'm looking forward to our tradition of opening up all the little notes we made this year in our memory jar.
The memory jar (or in our case it's a lantern) is a place where we take little slips of paper and write down anything that made us smile or laugh or happy from the year. Then (typically) on New Years Eve we open it up and read them all. We started this last year and loved it so we kept doing it.
This year, we are late getting it open because we chose to spend New Years Eve with friends playing cards and having some laughs. My favorite part of the night was laughing as we reminisced about our past memories with one another. It's so amazing to see how other people remember you and what memories they seem to cherish and keep. Some good, some bad, some embarrassing - but all out of love and that is the best.
This morning as I sit and watch it snow and thank God for my beautiful present, I am thinking about New Years and what I want to see for this year. I am the new resolutions type of person (sort of - I do it weird) and it got me thinking about how New Years is like hitting the "reset" button on life. It's almost as if you get a redo on all the things you wanted to accomplish but didn't and you get to try again. All the mistakes you made, you get a new chance to fix. It's almost as if you can feel the "new mercies" on this snow blanketed morning.

I think we all should work on living this way every day - with this sort of fresh start and a ready attempt to make today (the new day) a better one than the day before.
I am not going to get into my New Years Resolutions with you today, but I do want to wish you all the best for 2021. Each day is what we make of it. We may not get to decide or have control the things that happen to us, but we do get to decide what we will do with that as it comes.
